How does a Marmara grinding unit count imported clinker in CBAM?
Clinker is a precursor. Add tonnes of clinker used times its producer's verified embedded emissions, or the default value for its origin, to your own grinding electricity, then divide by tonnes of cement. Clinker usually decides most of the figure.
The calculation
- Clinker used x the clinker's specific embedded emissions, direct and indirect.
- Your grinding electricity x the applicable electricity factor.
- Any fuel burnt on site, such as for slag drying.
- Divide the total by tonnes of cement produced.
Ask the clinker supplier
Request its verified direct and indirect emissions per tonne of clinker for the same period. Without them, the default value for the supplier's country applies.
Additives
Slag, fly ash and limestone added at grinding carry little process CO2. Record tonnes so the clinker share is clear.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads your fuel and electricity bills into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions your EU importer asks for, and its CBAM cost calculator estimates certificate cost from 2026 to 2034 for covered goods. Senseible does not verify emissions or file CBAM declarations.
