How much subsidy does PM Surya Ghar give per kW of rooftop solar?
Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 18,000 for the third kW, so the most a household gets is Rs 78,000 for 3 kW or more. Special category states get Rs 33,000 and Rs 19,800. Housing societies get Rs 18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW.
The rates, from 13 February 2024
- First 2 kW: Rs 30,000 per kW (Rs 33,000 in special category states).
- Additional capacity up to 1 kW more: Rs 18,000 per kW (Rs 19,800).
- Beyond 3 kW: no additional assistance.
- Housing societies and RWAs, common facilities including EV charging: Rs 18,000 per kW (Rs 19,800), up to 500 kW at 3 kW per house.
MNRE's own examples
- 1.5 kW: Rs 30,000 x 1.5 = Rs 45,000.
- 2.5 kW: Rs 30,000 x 2 + Rs 18,000 x 0.5 = Rs 69,000.
- 6 kW: Rs 30,000 x 2 + Rs 18,000 x 1 = Rs 78,000.
- RWA with 100 kW and 20 houses: Rs 18,000 x 60 kW = Rs 10,80,000, since the cap is 3 kW per house.
Conditions that catch people out
- The subsidy follows the DC capacity of the modules, not the inverter rating.
- Modules must meet the domestic content requirement.
- A system gets the subsidy only once; a relocated system does not qualify again.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills, including net metering lines, so grid import, export and solar generation sit in one monthly record with the factor and source shown. Figures are self-declared.
