Do PM Surya Ghar systems have to use Indian-made solar modules?
Yes. To get the subsidy, modules must meet the Domestic Content Requirement: modules made in India from cells made in India. MNRE's guidelines say using non-DCR modules in any form makes the installation ineligible. Check the module datasheet and invoice before you sign.
The rule
Solar modules in the installation must satisfy the Domestic Content Requirement, meaning domestically manufactured modules made from domestically manufactured cells, to be eligible for central financial assistance.
What to ask your vendor
- The module make and model, and confirmation that it is a DCR module.
- Serial numbers on the invoice, since documentation is uploaded to the national portal.
- A system warranty: the scheme requires the complete system to be warranted for 5 years from commissioning, with 5 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance.
Carbon angle
Where the modules are made changes the embodied emissions of the system, not the Scope 2 saving from the electricity it produces. Most buyers report the saving; product carbon footprints count the embodied part.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills, including net metering lines, so grid import, export and solar generation sit in one monthly record with the factor and source shown. Figures are self-declared.
