Do solar inverters above 200 kW need BIS certification in India?

They fall under the Solar Systems, Devices and Components Goods Order, 2025, but MNRE extended self-certification for inverters above 200 kW until 31 December 2026 or further orders. Manufacturers need valid IEC certificates matching the Indian standards in the order and test reports from accredited labs.

What to put in the contract

For inverters above 200 kW delivered before 31 December 2026, ask for the IEC certificates and lab reports. For later deliveries, ask for the BIS registration unless MNRE extends self-certification again.

What Senseible does here

Senseible records your solar plant's generation and keeps the inverter and module paperwork with it, so its effect on Scope 2 is measured and the documents are on file; equipment approval stays with BIS and your supplier.
