How does a Surat water-jet weaving unit count electricity per metre of fabric?
Divide the month's electricity emissions by the metres woven that month: kWh times 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, over metres from the production register. Include the pumps and compressors on the same bill, since they serve the looms.
Steps
Take kWh from the bill for the weaving shed.
Multiply by 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.
Divide by metres woven in the same period, from the register.
Different qualities
If heavy and light qualities share one bill, split by loom hours or picks rather than by metres, and note the rule.
Worked example: one month (illustrative quantities)
- Electricity: 42,000 kWh x 0.710 = 29,820 kg CO2
- Fabric woven: 210,000 m
- Per metre: 29,820 / 210,000 = 0.142 kg CO2
Quantities are illustrative; the factor is the CEA grid average.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
