How much gas does a normal Vapi dye, API or chemical unit burn a year?

A typical Vapi dyes and pigments unit uses about 334 toe of heat a year, roughly 380,000 scm of gas if it all comes from gas. API units average 126 toe, about 145,000 scm, and other chemical units 218 toe, about 250,000 scm. Natural gas is about 76% of the cluster's energy (estimate).

Gas is not the only boiler fuel

TERI found most units running on gas and power, but its report also names coal as the main fuel in IBR boilers of 1 to 5 t an hour. If your steam comes from coal, use coal consumed from your stock register, not the gas figures here.

Check your unit against the band

  1. Add your Gujarat Gas bills for 12 months in scm.
  2. Divide by about 1,148 scm per toe, the ratio in TERI's cluster table, to get toe of heat.
  3. Compare with your type's band. A dye unit far above 470 toe should look at thermic fluid heater and boiler losses; far below may mean bills are missing.
  4. Work out CO2 on your own numbers: scm x 2.05 kg for gas, kWh x 0.675 kg for grid power.

Worked example: one year at a typical unit of each type

Estimates from TERI's 2020 typical-unit table, with all heat taken as gas and power converted at 860 kcal per kWh. PNG at 2.05 kg CO2 per scm; grid factor for FY 2025-26.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your Gujarat Gas and DGVCL bills into a monthly Scope 1 and 2 record, so you see your unit's own gas and power figures against these bands, traced to each bill.
