What do Verra rules say about meter calibration on an energy project?
VCS Standard v5.0 requires equipment used for monitoring to be calibrated to its specifications or to relevant national or international standards. It also requires a greenhouse gas information system and a monitoring plan with roles and responsibilities, plus data quality procedures. The methodology says which parameters and which accuracy.
What the standard asks for
- A greenhouse gas information system for obtaining, recording, compiling and analysing the data used to quantify reductions, covering the project and the baseline.
- A monitoring plan for the project that includes roles and responsibilities.
- Quality management procedures for data and information, with procedures for uncertainty where the methodology asks for them.
- Calibration of measurement and monitoring equipment according to its specifications, or relevant national or international standards.
What the standard leaves to the methodology
Which data and parameters to monitor, how often, and what uncertainty is acceptable. The standard says the data must be provided in accordance with the methodology, so the monitoring table in the methodology is the working document.
A calibration file the verifier can use
- A list of every meter in the monitoring plan, with make, serial number, range and what it measures.
- The calibration certificate or test record for each, with the date and the standard or specification used.
- The next due date and who is responsible.
- A note of any meter that failed or was replaced, with the dates and how the gap was filled.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills, fuel invoices and slips into dated monthly records. A utility bill rests on the utility's own meter, which gives you a second reading to set against your own meters. Calibration records stay with you and your verifier.
- Carbon credits
- Kiln temperature logs a verifier will accept
- Meter rules under the CCTS offset route
