What do BEE's ESCO grades mean, and how do I pick an energy service company?

BEE empanels energy service companies after grading by CRISIL, ICRA or CARE on a 100-point scale: 40 percent business risk, 25 percent organisational risk, 35 percent financial risk. Grade 1 means a score of 85 or more, grade 5 below 40. Empanelment lasts two years, and BEE opened a 2026 window for new and renewing ESCOs.

The five grades

What is scored

How to use this when choosing

The grade measures the company's capability and strength, not the quality of the proposal in front of you. Ask any ESCO for its BEE grade and validity, then for references on projects like yours, and look closely at the savings record, because the score already rewards ESCOs whose actual savings met their guarantees. BEE's published list of 72 ESCOs ran to 15 August 2026, so ask for current empanelment.

What Senseible does here

Senseible builds the pre-project baseline from your bills, so you have your own record to agree with the ESCO before the contract starts.
