What is the CBAM default value for hydrogen from India?

14.030 t CO2e per tonne of hydrogen under CN 2804 10 00, direct emissions only. That is far above what electrolysis on renewable power emits directly. Indian green hydrogen made by electrolysis should show far lower direct emissions, but only a verified actual figure lets the importer use it.

India default value, t CO2e per tonne

What it means for green hydrogen

Because hydrogen counts only direct emissions, electrolysis on renewable power has very low direct emissions. The default sits at 14.030, so a green producer loses most of its advantage if it lets the importer fall back on the default.

Mark-up on top

The listed values are increased by a mark-up: 10% for 2026, 20% for 2027 and 30% from 2028. Goods imported in 2026 always take the 2026 mark-up.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads coal, coke, gas, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so an actual figure you send an EU buyer can be traced back to the documents behind it. It does not file CBAM declarations.
