Should a contractor count site generator diesel or the temporary grid connection?
Both, in different scopes. Diesel you burn in site generators is Scope 1 at 2.68 kg CO2 per litre. Electricity from a temporary grid connection in your name is Scope 2 at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.
Steps
Litres per site from fuel issue records.
kWh from the temporary connection bill.
Report each in its scope, by site.
Who owns the connection
If the client pays the bill, that electricity is in the client's Scope 2, not yours.
Worked example: one site month (illustrative quantities)
- Generator: 900 L x 2.68 = 2,412 kg CO2 (Scope 1)
- Grid: 3,000 kWh x 0.710 = 2,130 kg CO2 (Scope 2)
Quantities are illustrative.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
