Does Gujarat reimburse MSMEs for energy and water audits, and what does it cover?
Yes. Under the Aatmanirbhar Gujarat Scheme for Assistance to MSMEs, the state reimburses 75% of the cost of an energy or water audit, up to Rs 50,000, and offers 25% of the cost of equipment the audit recommends, up to Rs 20 lakh. Confirm the current terms with your District Industries Centre before you book the audit.
What the scheme covers
- Audit: 75% of the cost of an energy audit or a water audit, capped at Rs 50,000, paid as a reimbursement.
- Equipment: 25% of the cost of energy or water saving equipment the auditor recommended, capped at Rs 20 lakh.
- The scheme is run by the Industries and Mines Department through the Industries Commissionerate and District Industries Centres. The government's myScheme portal lists it as valid from 5 October 2022 to 4 October 2027.
Conditions to check before you start
- The audit must be done by an institution or consultant the scheme recognises. Ask the District Industries Centre which ones qualify before you sign the auditor.
- Ask whether the equipment help needs a minimum measured saving after installation, and how you prove it.
- Check the time limit for filing a claim after the audit and after the equipment purchase.
- Ask how many times a unit can claim during the scheme period, and whether help from another scheme for the same equipment reduces the claim.
Evidence that makes the claim easier
- Udyam registration and the unit's location in Gujarat.
- Twelve months of electricity bills and fuel invoices before the audit, as the baseline.
- The audit report, the auditor's invoice and proof of payment.
- Equipment invoices, installation proof, and bills for the months after installation showing the saving.
Combine it with central help
The audit report also supports a SIDBI or bank energy efficiency loan, and the central ADEETIE scheme for MSMEs in selected clusters. Check each scheme's rule on stacking before you claim from more than one.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads past electricity bills and fuel invoices into a dated, fingerprinted baseline an auditor can use, and the same records later show the saving after new equipment goes in.

- SIDBI energy efficiency loan
