What CBAM data does an Indian cement grinding unit need from its clinker supplier?
The clinker supplier's verified embedded emissions per tonne, direct and indirect, for the year the clinker was made, plus the installation it came from. Clinker is a precursor for cement, so a grinding unit adds the clinker's emissions to its own grinding electricity and fuel.
What the grinding unit adds
- Electricity for grinding, since indirect emissions count for cement.
- Any fuel for drying additives.
- Calcined clay bought in, which is also a precursor.
If the supplier sends nothing
Default values can be used for the clinker as a last resort, but they include a mark-up and usually raise the buyer's cost. Ask before you sign the clinker contract.
Records to keep
Clinker receipts by supplier, tonnes ground, and cement output by clinker content, for at least six years.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads an exporter's fuel and electricity invoices into dated, fingerprinted records that a monitoring plan and a verifier can trace back to source. Senseible does not verify emissions, register operators in the CBAM Registry or file CBAM declarations.
- Marmara grinding with imported clinker
- Cement figure per tonne of clinker content
- Precursors bought from several suppliers
