Senseible

The Khurja potteries profile of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) says the cluster uses 18,442 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) but its table total prints 16,192: which is right?

The table's rows add to 18,442 toe, the figure the profile's text uses, so the printed total of 16,192 is 2,250 short. The profile cannot settle it: the 80 to 85% thermal share it gives for a pottery unit sits closer to 16,192. Do not cost or size anything from either total; use your own invoices.

What the profile prints

Does the shares line help?

The profile says thermal energy is 80 to 85% and electrical 15 to 20% for a pottery unit, not for the cluster total, so this check applies a unit-level range to the cluster rows. On 18,442 toe, electricity is 2,385 / 18,442 = 12.9% and thermal 87.1%. On 16,192, electricity is 14.7% and thermal 85.3%, closer to the stated range but still just outside it. If 16,192 were the true total, the oil row would be 12,352 toe, not 14,602. I cannot tell from the profile which figure is wrong.

The bill column does not tie either

What to quote instead

  1. Your own litres of LDO or RPO, cubic metres of gas and kWh for the last twelve months.
  2. If you must cite the cluster, give the rows and say the profile's total and text differ.
  3. Keep oil kL and toe in separate columns, so each can be checked. That is my own advice, not the profile's.

The two totals side by side

All figures are the profile's own. The 80 to 85% range is stated for a pottery unit. Cluster data is from 2015; the cause of the differences is not stated in the profile.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills into monthly records, so a year of power, oil and gas bills gives you your own totals to set beside these. It does not measure boilers or read a profile report, and it is not a third-party verifier.
