If my factory buys power through open access, which units count for the Renewable Consumption Obligation?

If your factory is a designated consumer buying through open access, the obligation applies to electricity drawn from sources other than the discom, measured at the point of drawal from the grid. You can meet the total from any renewable source, including green power, RECs or the CERC buyout price.

The rule in the notification

Ways to comply

  1. Consume renewable electricity, directly or through an energy storage system.
  2. Buy or self-generate Renewable Energy Certificates issued under CERC regulations, including RECs acquired under virtual power purchase agreements.
  3. Pay the buyout price set by CERC for any shortfall.

Units from the discom

Units you buy from the discom sit outside your own obligation; the discom carries its obligation on them. If you requisition green power at the discom's green tariff, those units still count as renewable consumption in the Annexure I example of the notification.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads open access units on your HT bill separately from discom units, so the drawal figure your auditor needs for RCO is visible month by month.
