What goes into the CBAM figure for flat steel from an integrated mill in Temirtau?
All direct emissions of the integrated route: coke ovens, sinter plant, blast furnaces and the basic oxygen shop, by carbon mass balance, plus lime kilns inside the site. Divide by tonnes of each product. Electricity from the mill's or the grid's coal plants is indirect and not charged for steel.
Main sources
- Coking coal carbon not leaving in coke sold, tar or other products.
- Blast furnace and BOF gas burnt on site, counted where it is burnt.
- Lime and dolomite calcined in kilns and fluxes in the sinter plant.
Waste gases
Where blast furnace or BOF gas is sent to a power plant, the CBAM rules assign part of its emissions to the steel. Follow the method for waste gases in the monitoring rules and document the gas flows.
Per product
Hot rolled coil, cold rolled sheet and coated products each need a figure. Downstream steps add their own fuel; precursor steel carries its embedded emissions in.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads coal, coke, gas and electricity invoices and production records into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so the direct emissions behind each tonne can be traced to the documents. Emissions factors outside India are entered from the official source and labelled.
