Is a steel wind turbine tower covered by CBAM, and what is its footprint?
Steel towers and tower sections fall under CN 7308, so they are CBAM goods when exported to the EU. Most of the footprint is the steel plate, then rolling, welding and painting. Ask the plate mill for its embedded emissions and add your own fabrication energy.
For CBAM
- Plate mill's embedded emissions, as a precursor.
- Your own fuel and electricity for rolling, welding and painting.
- Tonnes of towers produced.
For a wind developer
The tower is usually one of the heaviest steel items in a turbine, so it often sits high in the turbine's embodied carbon.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
