Senseible

How do I calculate the renewable electricity percentage my buyer asks for?

Divide the renewable electricity you consumed by the total electricity you consumed, in kWh, for the same period. Count self-consumed solar, green tariff or open access units with supply proof, and units covered by certificates retired in your name. Do not count the grid's average renewable share, exported solar units or attributes you sold.

The formula

Renewable electricity % = renewable electricity consumed / total electricity consumed x 100.

Total consumed = grid units imported, from your bills, plus self-generated units used on site. It is electricity only: fuels and heat stay out. That is how RE100 and CDP frame the metric, and it is why the figure differs from the BRSR energy table, which includes fuels.

What counts as renewable

What does not count

How a buyer checks the figure

Worked example: a plant with solar, a green tariff and RECs

0.710 kg CO2 per kWh is the CEA CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0 grid factor.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads units from electricity bills, keeps net-metered units apart and does not treat exported units as consumption. Market-based Scope 2 needs your instrument data, such as green tariff bills or REC retirement records.
